From doctorandus to doctor
It must have been a curious scene. A large, sweating man in a dress suit that was too small, who climbs the steps of the Academy Building at Broerstraat 5 in Groningen, accompanied by two women and two small children, one bleeding and the other screaming. It was Wednesday afternoon, December 21, 1988: the 'well-learned' (weledelgeleerde) Drs. A.C. de Groot wanted to cross out the 's' in his title and become the 'very learned' (weledelzeergeleerde) Dr. A.C. de Groot. He didn't get it for free……….
